Two Portland-Based Businesses Make Large Donation To The City
PORTLAND, Maine—Sept. 10, 2008—McClain Marketing Group, a full-service strategic marketing solutions firm, and Mr. Signs Inc., a full-service production and installation house, today announced that together they have donated the design, production and installation of a new welcome sign for Portland’s largest park, Deering Oaks Park. The donation, estimated at $6,500, is in response to the city's request for public-private partnerships to help offset budget cuts.
During a ceremony held in Deering Oaks Park, McClain Marketing and Mr. Signs unveiled the new sign, which is located at the State Street entrance near the Welcome Center. For the past few months, the two firms worked closely with the city's Public Services Department to create a new look in keeping with the history and design of Deering Oaks Park, and one that will serve as the model for future city and park signs.
“Providing design services for such an important city project is very meaningful to our firm,” stated Sue-Ellen McClain, principal, McClain Marketing Group. “As a small business owner it was natural for us to come forward and give back to the city in which we operate. We are delighted that this important public place is finally identified.”
"The City is incredibly grateful to McClain Marketing Group and Mr. Signs for their donation," stated Councilor Jim Cohen. "By working together in partnership, we were able to avoid a budget cut and improve the appearance of our park."
Joining McClain Marketing and Mr. Signs employees, and Councilor Cohen for the unveiling ceremony were members of the Friends of Deering Oaks Committee, Historic Preservation Committee and Friends of the Parks.
